So much good things have been happening with Hideous Progeny: we had Emily Dendinger, our playwright, visiting this weekend and sitting in on rehearsals. Our costume designer, Jackie Dalley, brought over some beautiful pieces for a photo shoot (thanks to Alison Luntz’s photography skills). Oh, and, tickets went on sale!

Fun with Romantics

We’re dealing with some pretty deep stuff in rehearsals for Hideous Progeny…marriage, childbirth, post-partum depression, sickness, divorce, death, murder, class, general malaise…it’s enough to make us feel pretty down. Luckily for us, there’s some fun to be had at the expense of those Romantics. Let’s laugh with them (not at them – Shelley would not like that one bit).

Hark, A Vagrant by K. Beacon is a wonderful site. And this strip in particular has been quoted no end during our table work.

Ada Lovelace Day! Sydney Padua’s take on the ex-Mrs. Byron and her daughter is, like Gem, truly outrageous.

F***Yeah, Byron. For when we need a reminder that he wasn’t all bad.

Finally, this isn’t really funny, but Frankenstein’s Womb is a great graphic novel that I picked up at Hub Comics in preparation for the show. I recommend both the book and the store – the book is creepy and spooky, and Hub Comics is anything but.

Also, don’t forget – there’s just a week left to become a backer for Hideous Progeny! You know you want that phone call from Percy!

Y’all, I’ve been looking at Regency furniture (they type Lord Byron might have in his home)–I need to make some more money! It’s soooooooooo pretty. Take a look at this!

Enough said.

Well, there’s a bit more to say, I suppose. Christine Atturio, our graphic designer, has outdone herself with this poster design. I think it absolutely captures the spirit of the show – sexy but a little frightening all at once.

While Hideous Progeny’s costume designer, Jackie Dalley, is hard at work, I thought I’d take a look at the style of the time and what she has to recreate. While our cast won’t be in their evening finery, overcomplicated hats, or doing hilarious dance moves, these pictures should give an idea of just how large an undertaking building these costumes is.

It’s with a bittersweet feeling that I announce our final presentation in our Inch Worm Play Reading Series. It’s been wonderful getting to meet all these playwrights and seeing how different directors and actors bring their words to life. Not to mention our wonderful talk-back sessions with the audience. It’s definitely something I’ll miss this summer.

But I’m very excited about this last play as well! The Christina Experiment by Deirdre Girard is a fascinating story about family, loyalty, and what we owe our children. Adrienne Boris is our director, and the cast includes Jake Berger, Lauren Foster, Chris Leon, Janelle Mills, and Phil Thompson. We hope you’ll join us as we close out the series with this great play, Sunday June 5 at 4:00 in the Somerville Theatre Microcinema. Click on the links below for more information.

Monday night we had a great crowd at The Hat Trick, our latest reading in the Inch Worm series. The actors were great and our leads even managed to not slur after imbibing multiple beers on stage – well done! Thank you to everyone involved and to our great audience. Be sure to catch our final reading, The Christina Experiment, June 5 at 4:00 pm at the Somerville Theatre Microcinema.

In our next bit of thanks, thank you to everyone who has donated to our Hideous Progeny design campaign so far! We reached our goal in no time, thanks to your generosity.
